PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

THE HERTZ CORPORATION, Park Ridge, NJ
Senior Vice President, Human Resources (2005-2007)
Directed the human resource efforts of a global transportation services organization with revenues exceeding $8 billion and 32,000 employees. Significant accomplishments in staffing, succession planning, labor relations, EEO, security, compensation and benefits.

  • Executed all human resource aspects involved in the sale of The Hertz Corporation from Ford Motor Company to Private Equity in 2005.
  • In a very compressed time frame, led a company restructuring initiative resulting in labor savings of $200 million annually.
  • Successfully restructured the employee benefits program, saving $15 million annually. In spite of excessive inflationary pressures, 2007 benefit costs per employee will be 7% less than 2005 costs.
  • Maintained a high focus on global staffing trends and increased productivity per employee by 7.6% to $250,000 per employee.
  • Collaborated on the development of an Employee Engagement Survey to determine employee’s commitment to the company.
  • Consulted with senior management at corporate and operating companies in the development of performance objectives that linked payouts to strategic plan objectives and key business drivers.
  • Prepared all materials for the quarterly Compensation Committee Meetings and presented same to the Board of Directors for the Compensation Committee.
  • Achieved average collectively bargained wage increases of 1.9% versus a 4.1% national average for similarly situated companies.

Division Vice President, Human Resources, RAC (Rent-A-Car Division) (1999-2005)

  • Managed staff of 15 human resource professionals.
  • Advised field managers and executive team on performance issues.
  • Managed several Reductions-In-Force initiatives resulting in 5% wage savings.
  • Developed a short and long term compensation strategy program for key executives.
  • Developed, implemented and tracked the division work force staffing plan to meet the challenges of a changing business model.
  • Developed and led the annual succession planning program including identification of high potential employees which enabled Hertz to effectively identify talent to fill key operating positions.
  • Developed employment advertising programs to ensure the company's brand image was consistent for customers and employees.
  • Created an employee communication and education program which resulted in a 25% increase in 401K participation.
  • Played an integral role in the implementation of the corporation's strategic plan regarding the expansion of Hertz Local Edition, the off airport rental organization, competing with Enterprise Rent-a-Car. During my tenure, the branch network expanded from 307 locations to 1200 locations and the employee population increased from 1100 employees to over 3500 employees.

Division Vice President, Human Resources, HERC (Hertz Equipment Rental Corp.) (1998-1999)

  • Managed a staff of 6 human resource professionals.
  • Provided strategic leadership for 15 domestic/international acquisitions including due diligence, structuring key employee retention programs and employee communications.
  • Conducted Organizational Assessments for all regions and division departments to identify talent for future growth initiatives.
  • Developed a team of human resource professionals who were respected by the field operating units.

Manager, Labor Relations (1990-1998)

  • Chief labor relation strategist and negotiator for the company.
  • Managed the collective bargaining process to drive tighter discipline and better bargaining results in the 150 labor agreements.
  • Chief corporate spokesperson in over 150 negotiations and achieved wage settlements consistently below the national average.
  • Successfully concluded all of the negotiations without any work stoppages.

Manager, Employee Relations, New York Region (1986-1990)

  • Directed the employee relations activities for over 1200 union and non-union employees in the tri-state area.
  • Successfully managed a strike with the International Associates of Machinists involving our New York mechanics and gained significant operating flexibilities and cost savings.
  • Prepared materials and negotiated over 20 labor agreements.
  • Managed the compensation program, including merit salaries and incentive awards.
  • Developed and managed the annual staffing plans to ensure productivity levels were maintained.
  • Developed and implemented the first Corporate Drug Testing Screening Program.

Director of Employee Relations, Car Leasing Division (1984-1986)

  • Responsible for the employee relations function encompassing 19 regional sales offices and 750 employees.
  • Developed an employee orientation program to promote the culture of the organization.
  • Implemented the division's initial succession planning exercise.
