We Help in a Crisis | We Change Lives
We answer every call...
If you or someone you know needs help, call 2-1-1 or click nj211.org. It’s the United Way’s statewide system built on the principle of outstanding customer service, and it’s free, easy to use, confidential, multi-lingual, and accessible to individuals with disabilities.
2-1-1 is the gateway to health and social services, government assistance and local community resources. A call to 2-1-1 or click to nj211.org makes the simple but critical connection to caring professionals who know community resources and can make help happen.
The system has been handling 150,000 calls a year and 2 million database searches on the website. Most recently those numbers have changed. In Bergen County, call volume has increased 44% in the last year. Web traffic has exploded, increasing 60% in the same period. The vast majority of callers are now trapped between lay-offs, foreclosures and skyrocketing costs for basic needs. Increasingly callers are asking for help for the first time in their lives.
Whether it is a community wide emergency or an every day concern, callers can find assistance for everything from healthcare to housing, shelters to food banks, legal aid to counseling or child care and, in the aftermath of a natural disaster - like a flood or fire - 2-1-1 has proven a reliable source of support services and recovery assistance.
So, when you need help. Start here.
2-1-1 is available throughout New Jersey from any traditional wireless, or VOIP phone as well as from TTY equipment for the hearing impaired. The database is searchable online and nj211.org offers Instant Messaging for Live chat with a 2-1-1 specialist.
