Bergen County's
United Way Names Director of Development
Cheryl Moses of Wyckoff is Promoted
BERGEN COUNTY, April 6, 2007 –
Cheryl Moses of Wyckoff has been promoted to
Director of Development by Bergen County’s
United Way. In her new role, Moses will focus
on attracting additional corporate partners
to expand sponsorship of the United Way’s
vital programs and services. She will also manage
special events.
“My goal is to increase financial contributions
to our Compassion Fund. It is such a critical
source of emergency financial assistance for
someone in crisis. The fund makes is possible
for Bergen County’s United Way to help
when no one else can,” said Moses. “We have seen
the impact with military families who never
anticipated the drain on their finances caused
by extended deployments overseas. When the apartment
house in Bergenfield exploded and left 18 people
homeless we bought clothes, replaced household
items, helped with relocation. Then we paid
the security deposit if it was needed.”
“We are working to increase our resource
investment in direct care for people in crisis,”
said Tom Toronto, President of Bergen County’s
United Way. “In Bergen County, there are
more homeless two parent families than ever
before. We know from over 150,000 calls, to
our 2-1-1 helpline that increasingly our friends,
neighbors and family members are marginalizes
by the costs of housing and health care.”
The Compassion Fund was established with $5,000
in donor contributions. With grant funding and
charitable gifts from individuals and corporations
it has grown to over $1 million dollars.
Moses who often works one-on-one to make help
happen, joined the staff of Bergen County’s
United Way in April 1999. She began her career
as a grant writer. She was successful in securing
grant funding to expand NJ Kids Care in Bergen
County and to bring the IBM Young Explorers
program into pre-school programs serving “at
risk” children. In 2002, Moses was named
the Director of Community Services a position
she has held until her recent promotion.
Moses is a resident of Wyckoff where she lives
with her husband and three children.
