Tom Toronto
President, Bergen County’s United Way
Tom Toronto has more than 25 years of experience working for United Way. He became president of Bergen County's United Way in 2003.  Tom holds a B.A. from Montclair State University and an M.A. from Columbia University.

Throughout his public service career, Tom has played a leading role in spearheading numerous local initiatives to serve vulnerable populations including 2-1-1, the United Ways's 24 hour helpline that is transforming the way people are helped in the State of New Jersey.

Most recently, Tom has championed efforts to stimulate the development of new affordable housing through the creation of Bergen County United Way’s Capital Bank. He has been appointed by Bergen County Executive Dennis Mc Nerney as chairman of the Task Force to End Homelessness.  In May 2007, Tom was honored by Bergen County Habitat for Humanity as their Builder of the Year.

In June 2007, Tom was recognized by the New Jersey Community Development Association for his leadership in ending homelessness.

Tom is a resident of Leonia where he lives with his wife Priscilla and two children James and Maria.

Before establishing his business practice in 2000, Jim held the position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Nabisco, Inc. in Parsippany, New Jersey. Prior to that, he served as Financial Officer in various roles with BestFoods, Inc. in Englewood Cliffs. Jim holds a BS degree in Public Accounting from Pace University.
 
A lifelong resident of Bergen County , Jim grew up in Hasbrouck Heights. He is married to the former Sandra J. Horan. They have four grown children and five grandchildren.
